Bulbs for lamps

Picking a bulb isn’t always a walk in the park. There is an overwhelming number of terms out there, and our guide to bulbs aims to help you navigate them all, but we’d like to decipher some of them for you below.

If you’re looking for a bulb because the old one has burnt out, you should start by figuring out the base of the old bulb. The classic screw-in bulbs generally come in two sizes: big and small. The big one is called E27, and the small one is called E14. Type E bulbs are the classic bulbs that most of us have tried to screw in and out of a lamp. Just like Lampemesteren’s mascot, they’re named after the inventor Thomas Edison!

Type G bulbs are usually attached with a kind of clip and are less common than type E bulbs. They’re often referred to as pin-base bulbs.

Type GU bulbs are a recent invention, and these bulbs are often mounted in spotlights, where the two legs are attached and twisted around 20 degrees to mount them on a sort of bayonet mount. Type GU bulbs are designed for hanging lamps, and the number that follows the GU label refers to the distance between the two legs on the bulb.

Type T bulbs are the last kind we’ll touch on here. T5 is a fluorescent light and needs a fixture to hold it up.

Colour rendering

When we talk about bulbs, it’s important to touch on the term RA, which refers to the light’s ability to render colours. Daylight is 100 RA—in other words, it renders colours perfectly. LED bulbs often provide 80-95 RA, which means that the colours look very similar to what you would see in daylight. Generally speaking, lights in your home should have at least 80 RA to ensure beautiful colours and ideal lighting.

LED bulbs

LED bulbs are very popular, and for good reason. The light of an LED bulb is measured in Lumen rather than Watt like other bulbs. Generally speaking, the following conversions apply:

15W = 140 lumen
25W = 250 lumen
40W = 470 lumen
60W = 800Lumen
75W = 1050 Lumen
100W =1520 Lumen

An LED bulb is very economical and uses little energy. We have LED bulbs from GN, e3light, Muuto, DuraLamp, Philips, Vita, Megaman, Raxon, Tala, and many more.

Decorative bulbs

These days, many lamps feature a visible bulb, making the bulb almost as important to the lamp’s expression as the lamp itself. To help you perfect the look, we’ve created a wide range of lovely and decorative bulbs for all kinds of lamps.

Philips Hue – The bulbs of the future

In collaboration with Apple, Philips has designed Philips Hue, which we consider to be the light of the future. You can download an app, and thanks to the specially designed bulbs, you can set and adjust your light as you see fit, including choosing between 16 million colours.

This is a breakthrough in the bulb industry. Where you once needed a dimmer and a timer, you just need the right bulb. You can also use Philips Hue to deter burglars as you can set the light to turn on and off at various points throughout the day and in the rooms of your choosing when you’re not home.

Wide range of bulbs

We have various bases and sizes in stock, including the popular E27, E24, G9, and GU10 bulbs, not to mention the more niche GU3.5, R7S, and G23 bulbs.
