Flos has won a range of prizes and is internationally recognised for its designs. Flos lamps are on display in design museums around the world.
In the 1980s, talented up-and-coming designers flocked to Flos. In 1988, Flos started its partnership with
Philippe Starck.
This partnership has led to a series of successes and Philippe Starck still works with the company to design and develop new products, including the Ara lamp, the Romeo Moon series, and the Cicatrice de Luxe chandelier. In the 1990s, Flos manufactured the Rosy Angelis,
Romeo Moon, and Archimoon collections, all designed by Philippe Starck.
Other talented designers the company has worked with include Jasper Morrison, Marc Newson, Antonio Citterio, Marcello Ziliani, Marcel Wanders, Piero Lissoni, Rodolfo Dordoni, Joris Laarman, Knud Holscher, Johanna Grawunder, and Patricia Urquiola.
The elegant and expressive
IC lamp is one of Flos’ great successes from the 2010s. The lamp was designed by Michael Anastassiades, who started working with Flos in 2014. The inspiration for the lovely and daring IC lamps was a video of a juggler, who was balancing balls on their arms and legs. The designer has recreated the magical moment where the juggler balances the ball perfectly on their fingertip, reimagined as a spherical lampshade balancing perfectly on a slender frame.
Miss K and KTribe from Phillippe Starck
Without a doubt, one of the most recognisable lamps from Philippe Starck is the
Miss K table lamp. His take on the traditional silhouette of the table lamp has an elegant look that commands attention. You can make out the diffuser through the semi-transparent plastic material of the lampshade, a feature that gives the lamp a distinct expression. The lamp is fitted with a transparent cable, giving Miss K a nice and polished look.
Philippe Starck once said:
”You can’t leave two Miss K lamps alone together – they’ll just multiply.” The Miss K has been further developed in the
KTribe collection. KTribe is a complete collection with the same distinct lampshade as Miss K, paired with a foot, base, or stand in timeless aluminium. The stylish lamp is available as a table lamp, pendant, floor lamp, and wall lamp, all of which add a comfortable and effective light to any room.
Throughout the 1990s, Flos released a range of products from new designers. This reflected Flos’ desire to unearth talented designers in order to stay ahead of the market. In partnership with Jasper Morrison, Flos began to manufacture its Glo-ball lamps in 1998.
The Bouroullec brothers, Ronan and Erwan, started collaborating in the late 90s. They had their breakthrough in the late 00s, when they designed the popular
Aim Lampe for Flos. The brothers are famous for their experimental approach to design, which is reflected in the Aim Pendant. The simple lamp is based on the concept of step-free adjustment to the height of the light. Together, the minimalist lampshade and loose cable provide flexibility and serve as a sculptural, decorative object in your décor.
Flos lamps are characterised by their adaptability and gorgeous details, including hand-blown glass shades and elegant shadow effects. Flos lamps are more than just lighting—they are art.
The Flos philosophy is that lamps should be provocative and forward-thinking without compromising the basic and fundamental principles of lighting. This vision has led to a range of iconic lamps that have helped change the way we think about lighting.
Finally, most Flos lamps are highly functional lamps offering more than the standard 40-60W, which means that they are capable of providing more than just cosy lighting. This is an important and highly sought-after quality in commercial as well as private spaces.
